I am sure you have seen many lavender fields in your lifetime but do you know what it is used for? Lavender has been used for hundreds of years around the world throughout history. Lavender, which is sometimes called Lavandula, is a pale tint of purple and belongs to the genus of 39 known species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae. Lavender is mostly found in the Mediterranean area.

As mentioned above, lavender can be used in many different forms. One form that is mostly used is in the oil form. Lavender oil is used in many different areas. This oil can be applied directly to the skin or the hair depending on the application and the desired effect. It can also be added to any potpourri and can also be added to bath water. You can also take the lavender flowers and make a sachet and place it under your pillow while you are sleeping.  This is good for people who have insomnia or are battling with depression. 

Commercial preparations are made from dried flowers and essential oils of the lavender plant. These preparations are available in the following forms:



  • Aromatherapy oil
  • Bath gels
  • Extracts
  • Infusions
  • Lotions
  • Soaps
  • Teas
  • Tinctures
  • Whole, dried flowers

Lavender in cleaning products

Yes, even many companies are adding lavender to everyday cleaning products. You can find bleach that is lavender scent or you can find Fabuloso that is fragranced with lavender. Many different aromatherapy candles are of lavender scent. I have bought epsom salt with lavender in it. It felt like heaven when I bath in it. 

Therefore, using lavender in everyday life can be a good thing for everyone involved. It will leave you feeling better than before. It will also leave you feeling refreshed.
